Oxygen Bars: Is A Breath of Fresh Air Worth It?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified oxygen bars as illegal medical devices. Oxygen bars are businesses that offer customers the opportunity to inhale pure oxygen for a fee. The FDA’s concern is that oxygen bars may be making unsubstantiated health claims and that they may be providing oxygen in a way that is not safe or effective.
The FDA has received reports of adverse events associated with oxygen bars, including dizziness, fainting, and seizures. They are also concerned that an oxygen bar may be used by people with underlying health conditions. Such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), who could be harmed by inhaling pure oxygen.
The FDA has sent warning letters to several oxygen bar businesses. Ordering them to stop making illegal health claims and to stop providing oxygen in a way that is not safe or effective. The FDA has also taken enforcement action against several oxygen bar businesses, including seizing products and equipment.
If you are considering visiting an oxygen bar, the FDA recommends that you talk to your doctor first. Your doctor can help you determine if oxygen therapy is right for you. If they can recommend a safe and effective way to receive oxygen therapy
